You know that jingle, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”? Well, for me, I always think of the Fall TV season is that time in my mind! I appreciate the return of my favourite programs and I’m always interested to see what is in store in terms of new programs.
I’ve been trolling the web checking out the newest shows and I wanted to share my picks (and misses) for the coming season!
My Picks this Fall:
Up All Night (NBC) – A few monthes ago I was talking about how excited I was when I learned that Christina Applegate was returning to tv and she is one of the stars of Up All Night. This half-hour sitcom centres on a pair of new parents who are trying to juggle work, romance and having a child. I am hoping this show will make me laugh as I need a good sitcom in my life! The show premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 10/9 Central and then moves to 9/8 Central starting on September 21st.

Person of Interest (CBS) – Now THIS sounds like an interesting show! “Finch (Michael Emerson) is a mysterious (could Emerson play anything less?) billionaire who has created a surveillance program for the government that identifies people who will be involved in a future crime — either as a perp or a victim. Finch reaches out to Reese (Jim Caviezel), a presumed-dead CIA agent-turned-drunk, to stop the crimes before they occur. Got that? Now will you be watching as closely as those surveillance cameras?” I’m already setting my PVR for this show – I’m just hoping that I don’t fall into the trap of falling for a great show only to see it cancelled with a tonne of loose ends (I’m still bitter about The Event, V and Flash Forward leaving me in the lurch!). The show premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9/8 Central.

Last Man Standing (ABC) – I was a huge fan of Home Improvement and Tim Allen – he’s a really funny guy! For that reason I have my fingers and toes crossed that Last Man Standing will give Tim Allen the platform to be his entertaining self! As the only male in a household of women, there is a lot of potential in Last Man Standing! The show premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 8/7 Central.
I’m on the fence about these shows:
Suburgatory (ABC) – Described as “Tessa (Jane Levy), a native New Yorker, is abruptly uprooted to the ‘burbs after her single dad, George (Jeremy Sisto), finds a box of condoms in her drawer and decides she needs to be in a more wholesome environment. Of course, their new cookie-cutter neighborhood is anything but appealing to Tessa, who loathes her school’s mean girls and their obsession with all things superficial.” The show has potential but it might get really annoying really quickly. We’ll have to see. The show premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 8:30/7:30 Central.

Prime Suspect (NBC). I’m a huge fan of the original series (Helen Mirren is the star – how could you not!?!?) and NBC has been promoting the series all summer. I’m intrigued but I honestly don’t know if it will be able to measure up the UK original. Time will tell! The series premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10/9 Central.
PASS!
Charlie’s Angels (ABC) – I loved it in the 1970s but I was only 6 years old when the original series premiered! I know that retro programs are hot right now but I guess I’m a tv snob – I’m not a fan of remakes. For that reason, I’m going to give Charlie’s Angels a pass.
Whitney (NBC) – I’ve seen the previews for Whitney and, to be frank, the show just doesn’t look funny! I tend to think that executives choose the funniest clips to draw you in for their promotions of new programs and, if these clips are the best that Whitney has to offer, this show is going to be over before it starts!
The Playboy Club (NBC). A show centering around the Playboy Club – are you kidding? Seriously, I thought it was a joke but apparently NBC is serious about it. Thanks anyway, but there is enough good television that I’m not even going to bother to tune into this show!
