I love games that geared to all age groups. While I know sometimes the girls like to play things are geared just to them (and bore the adults senseless!) it is much more fun when we can all play together!
I thought Ice Age: Continental Drift – Arctic Games would be a fun game for the family because we’ve all enjoyed the Ice Age movies! The premise of Ice Age: Continental Drift – Arctic Games is as follows: When their island is set adrift in the midst of continental upheaval, Manny and the herd encounter a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates with a secret treasure. Having trouble deciding on how to split the treasure evenly, they collectively decide to settle the problem through a series of off-the-wall sporting events including ski jumping, ice smashing, and glacial hopping. Ultimately, the winner of the most events will be entitled to the prize. As the prehistoric games begin, players must side with Manny and the herd, or the seafaring pirates to determine the fate of the riches.
We had a hoot playing together! When we opened the box, we decided to play in tournament mode right away are both girls were keen to play. This game is different from a lot of our games because you only need 1 controller. As each person takes their turn, they pass the controller back and forth.
The games were just incredibly fun and really funny! There are a number of different games (it reminded me of the Artic Age decathlon!) that included things like Glacier Hopping, the Prehistoric Plumber, Bob-Smashing and Coconut Slingshot.
Bob-Smashing is a variation on bobsledding, except you have to collect acorns, smash into your targeted pieces of ice and avoid your opponent’s pieces! Both the girls had no problem playing this game and were having a lot of fun!
Glacier Hopping was also a lot of fun but Little One had trouble running and jumping at the same time (luckily, she didn’t mind letting me take a turn!). I thought it was a great challenge to my dexterity, timing and fine motor skills to get my character over all the glaciers and deal with the bouncing rubber plants!
The Coconut Slingshot was Little One’s best event! She did a great job of eyeing up the targets, taking aim and shooting! She said it was her favourite!
Miss Eight also played the Story version on her own. She said she really liked how the games were integrated into the storyline.
This game is definitely one of our current favourites and we’ve already spent hours playing together so Ice Age: Continental Drift – Arctic Games is definitely fun for the whole family!
