Plans for 2012

A friend of mine posted this quote on Facebook the other day and I really think it is a reflection of how I’m feeling about 2012.

New Years is a time to reflect on your life. Time to think about your past, your present, and your future, it is time to face your challenges and meet them, and once you meet your challenges you move on to the next challenge you face in life one step at a time, if you are in a hurry, you are in a hurry to go nowhere. Having a positive attitude and great communication skills will help you get to where you want to be in life. There are no such words as; I CANT, there is no such action called; Failure. Open up your eyes and see the beauty of life with your heart, find your truth and live your dreams, gift your love. ~ Lee Held

Here are my plans for 2012 (I hate using the word resolution!)

1. Stop being my own worst enemy. I spend more time thinking and worrying than I do embracing life and taking steps to achieve my goals.

2. Become healthier by exercising more and losing a substantial amount of weight I am now officially 40 years old and I know that taking care of myself is more important than ever. As some of you are aware, I had a great plan to lose weight by the time I had turned 40 but, like many things, I let my own negative thinking get in my way and actually gained weight instead! No more! I actually started a couple of weeks ago by returning to the gym.

3. Developing and cooking healthy recipes and no more fast food! Convenience is the key because cooking healthy meals is easy to do if you plan ahead! I have already begun developing some healthy recipes, which I’ll be sharing with you, and freezing portions so that I have no excuse not to eat a healthy meal because others are eating something I think is yummy (which tends also be calorie-ladened!) or because I can’t be bothered cooking some individual for myself.

I will be recording what I eat and how much I exercise in a journal that I received from a friend. It will help keep me focussed as I tend to conveniently “forget” what I’ve eaten (refer to #1 – being my own worst enemy!) and make me accountable to myself.

4.Keep finances organized. I’ve actually been working on a system for the past few monthes that I have found really works (and one that I plan on sharing because it is so simple and effective). That being said, the goal now that the budget has been working well is to save as much as possible and set targets for things this coming year to make sure they are possible.

5. Sharing my love with the people who are important to me. My family and friends are incredibly important to me but, because I focus on little things (see #1) I sometimes forget to show them and tell them how much they make my life better! From this point on, I will be making a concerted effort to do that because they do mean so much to me!

I’m sure there are other things I should consider but these are the things that come to mind. You’ll be hearing more about positive thinking, healthy eating, exercise and finances here as well because My Little Review Corner is an extension of myself and I think these things are important to many of you as well!

    We have similar resolutions. I should add “cook more” to mine too…guilty!

  2. Those are some great goals! I also don’t like resolutions but rather call them goals. I think every year I want to get healthy, this year I really need to exercise more..

  6. Making a meal plan really helps with the healthy eating. It means planning ahead and grocery shopping with a list – but it help you a lot in the long run

    We have some pretty similar goals. I want to lose 20 pounds (at least) this year and my hubby really wants to plan (and stick to) a budget. Those are both really hard, but they can totally be accomplished with some willpower! Good luck!

  10. Loving your plans for 2012! We are hitting our finances hard this year. Taking a real good look at where are money is going, cutting back where we can and just making better financial decisions all around. Cheers to a prosperous 2012 for all of us!
