I love Hoisin Sauce (I seem to add it to a lot of recipes, from chicken stew to pizza) so I was really excited when perusing the Experimental mood and coming across Orange-Hoisin Grilled Chicken! I couldn’t wait to try it!
-from the Moodie Foodie app
1/2 cup Sensations by Compliments 100% Pure Pulp-Free Orange Juice
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
1 tbsp. grated fresh ginger (I used 1 tbsp ground ginger)
1 1/2 lbs. skinless, boneless chicken pieces (such as breasts or thighs)
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 Compliments Organic Green Onions, thinly sliced
1 tsp. sesame seeds
- Blend orange juice with hoisin sauce and ginger. Place chicken and half of sauce in a resealable bag. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or for up to 24 hours.
- Preheat grill to medium-high. Remove meat from marinade and pat dry with paper towels; discard used marinade. Brush chicken lightly with oil.
- Grill chicken for 2 minutes. Brush evenly with fresh marinade, reduce heat to medium and grill, turning and basting often, for 10 to 12 minutes longer or until chicken is cooked through. Sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
And the result? Oh my – SO GOOD! I loved the balance of the sweetness of the orange juice with the saltiness of the hoisin sauce and the brightness of the ginger. The chicken ends up being very moist and the little extra crunch of the onions and sesame seeds give it a little crunch.
I can’t wait to try more of the Moodie Foodie recipes – if they are all as good as the Orange-Hoisin Grilled Chicken then I’ll never need a cookbook again!
