I was talking earlier today about how much I love to read. In that same vein, I try to encourage the girls to read every chance that I get! The holidays provide a perfect opportunity as Scholastic has a number of interesting and diverse books on offer geared to the holiday season!
One series that is new to me is the “How Do Dinosaur…” books and there are 2 new books connected to the holidays! How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah? and How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? share holiday traditions through the antics of the dinosaurs (who behave like petulant children) with beautiful illustrations and fun rhymes! Little One thinks these books are fun and Miss Eight likes it because she can actually read them to her sister! I also appreciated the fact that the girls don’t know any about Chanukah so How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Chanukah? gave me the opportunity to answer their questions and teach them something as well!
And Robert Munsch, who is a HUGE favourite of mine (not only is he Canadian but he is also a relatively local author as he lives in Guelph, Ontario!) has a new Christmas book that is guaranteed to make the children in your life smile — and you’ll probably find yourself cracking a grin as well! Finding Christmas is based on Munsch’s family itself! Every single Christmas, Julie finds the presents her mom and dad have hidden. But this year, the presents are nowhere to be found! Have her parents decided not to have Christmas at all? Like all of Robert Munsch’s books, the story is fun and engaging, and the illustrations (by Michael Martchenko) are as cute and detailed as I expect from Munsch’s books!
So check out Scholastic Canada for a variety of holiday titles!
