Sobeys – Tracking Your Fish Review and Giveaway (Canada)

Over the past couple of years, I’ve become much more conscious of where the food comes from that I am eating and that I am feeding my family. It’s easy to ignore it, but realistically it makes sense to have an understanding of the birthplace of our food because it can have such a huge impact on our lives!

Sobeys is aware that customers, like myself, are interested in learning about the roots of their food and, as such, they’ve has teamed up with Ecotrust Canada to share with their consumers a seafood traceability system that allows a customer to truly track the journey of a seafood purchase from ocean to plate. As the first of its kind among Canadian grocery retailers, I was fascinated to find out how this system works!

From the fisherman who caught it, the boat it was caught on, the fishing area it was caught from and the fishing method used, this system will enable you to make more informed decisions about the seafood you bring home to your family. Customers can trace their fresh seafood by inputting a unique code found on the product packaging on www.thisfish.info. For traceable Sensations by Compliments seafood, customers will find a unique code to input on www.compliments.ca/madewithcare and a QR code to scan using a smartphone.

When I tried out the traceable program, it simply boggled my mind! I was able to find out who caught my fish, where it was caught and how it was caught. I appreciated the fact that I knew where my fish had come from – I could even send a note to the fisherman about my fish product!

There are a variety of traceable Sensations products currently available at Sobeys including:
· Sensations by Compliments Wild Sockeye Salmon Fillets;

· Sensations by Compliments Wild Pacific Halibut Fillets;

· Sensations by Compliments Wild Albacore Tuna Portions; and

· Sensations by Compliments Wild Black Cod Fillets.
