Chicken Soup for the Soul always amazes me with the heart-warming and emotional stories surrounding all elements of life and, recently, they came out with a pair of new books that reflect the love we feel for our pets!

Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Dog’s Life reveals the emotional attachment many dog owners feel for their canine companions. I must admit, I’m more of a dog person, but I’ve had both dogs and cats that held a special place in my heart during my life. While we couldn’t have a dog when we were growing up, my aunt had 2 dogs during my childhood and they both meant a lot to me! Queenie was a Dalmation who pranced around and loved to be the centre of attention. My aunt’s second dog was a Heinz 57 (she looked like her family tree involved about a dozen different varieties of dog) but she loved to play with us and my aunt treated her just like a child and she felt like part of our family! A few years ago, my parents got a Shih-Tzu and she is the centre of my parent’s world! She is so loving and is great with the girls – they always have a lot of fun when they are together! In contrast, my favourite cat memories involve a cat who became my roommate in university! My roommate had a Persian cat (called “Kitty” – no joke, that was the cat’s name!) who loved nothing more than curling up on top of my computer keyboard and staring at me with all of her feline attitude when I’d try to convince her to come down from her perch! I loved her attitude!

It is because of my own memories that I really enjoyed reading both Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Dog’s Life and Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Cat’s Life. Many of the stories made me laugh, while others brought me to tears! I think these books are great for anyone whose had a special pet in their lives!
