Chef Boyardee – Review and Giveaway (US and Canada)

In October Chef Boyardee launched a new initiative called Club Mum!. The site is described as “an easy-to-navigate online community for moms to share insider experiences, ideas and helpful hints about family mealtime and other popular topics. Led by a panel of four popular bloggers, Club Mum – a play on moms being ‘mum’ about their best-kept secrets – is a new forum for moms to connect online and share their tips for how they deliver the “good stuff” to their kids. The website includes editorial and video content on a broad range of subjects, such as getting more vegetables into kids’ diets, keeping kids active during winter weather, strategies for dealing with picky eaters, packing nutritious lunches and encouraging philanthropy among the whole family. In addition, the brand has launched a Club Mum Facebook page, which mirrors the Club Mum site and serves as an additional tool of engagement.”

In addition to Club Mum!, Chef Boyardee have added to their canned pasta line with the inclusion of a series of Whole Grain items, including Lasagna, Beefaroni and Mini ABCs and 123s. According to Chef Boyardee, “The new line of Whole Grain Beefaroni, Lasagna and Mini ABC’s & 123’s offer the goodness of whole grains and a full serving of vegetables.”

I was interested in trying this new line of products because Chef Boyardee has always been a family favourite and I liked the idea that these products provided whole grains and vegetables. We received samples of the Beefaroni and Lasagna to try and, I must say, I was really impressed! I’ve found, at times, when I’ve tried the whole grain version of a product it doesn’t taste as good as the original but this was NOT the case with these products! Everyone loved them at our house and noone even noticed that they were different than the original version (which to me is a sign of a great product!). I also checked out the nutritional information and I was pleased to see that each serving had between 12 and 16 of the daily recommended fibre intake. For me, that is a huge bonus because I’m always trying to find ways to increase fibre in my diet!

Overall, I was really pleased with these products. I hope they make their way to Canadian shelves soon (as I haven’t seen them yet where we live) as I will buy them regularly when they do!
